GTCO CalComp
announces QuikRuler II™—A
Palm OS® Application
that Enables Digitizer Use for Quantity Takeoff GTCO CalComp announces QuikRuler II for Palm handheld computers. The 9 lb. QuikRuler II system, which includes a Roll-Up Digitizer and Palm-compatible software application, is a highly accurate yet simple to use measuring system designed for construction cost estimators. The QuikRuler II software provides users with the capability of measuring irregular areas, calculating perimeters, measuring length segments and performing counts in both English and Metric scales. Users can easily and quickly perform takeoffs at the job site or office, store the information on the Palm and synchronize it to their desktop PC using the Palm HotSync feature. The QuikRuler II supports both English and Metric measurements, performs conversions between these units and provides a scale function to set measurement scales to match the drawing. Scale options also include unlocking the X,Y axes and AutoScaling which make it easy to measure plans that have been reduced in size or have no scale. “The QuikRuler II offers a breakthrough for construction estimators,” indicated Eric Timmons, General Manager, GTCO CalComp. “With the QuikRuler II and Roll-Up digitizer, estimators now have an easy to use blueprint measuring system that is both highly portable and easy to use. With the Palm’s HotSync capability, users can easily transfer information to their favorite Construction Estimating Software application to perform a complete job bid.” QuikRuler II runs on any Palm Computing handheld device running Palm OS Version 3.1 or later. The Palm device connects to the Roll-Up Digitizer using the standard RS-232 HotSync cable, either cradle or portable versions. The standard graffiti and Palm keyboard are used for text and numeric entry, providing a common look and feel to other Palm applications. “Users can now add measurement capabilities to other features such as calendars, phone lists and email provided by the Palm.” indicated Jennifer O’Sullivan, Marketing Manager, GTCO CalComp. “The QuikRuler II is truly unique and provides the latest advancement in measurement technology for the construction estimator.” Founded in 1975, GTCO was awarded a patent for the invention of the world's first absolute-position electromagnetic digitizing technology. Since then, GTCO CalComp has produced and now supports over one million input systems in fifty countries around the world, sold under some of the most recognized brand names in the peripherals industry. With offices in Columbia MD, Scottsdale AZ and Vienna Austria, GTCO CalComp continues to focus on developing input peripherals that dramatically improve individual and group productivity worldwide. |
